Registered charity no. 800773

Saffron Walden Choral Society is a friendly and enthusiastic choir of about 130 singers
from Safffron Walden and nearby places in Essex, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire & Suffolk.

It is one of the oldest choral societies in the UK with a continuous existence since 1883.

We meet regularly from September to June on Monday evenings, at Saffron Walden County High School, and give three major concerts each year, usually in the attractive setting of St. Mary's Parish Church, Saffron Walden, one of East Anglia's finest churches.

Other concerts are also given, and in December we present a special Christmas concert which involves local schools.

Rehearsals are often demanding
but also great fun and we work hard
to achieve a high standard of performance.

Our repertoire is very varied and over recent years has included works from Monteverdi, Bach and Mozart, through Brahms and Vaughan Williams, to Britten, Tippet, Gershwin and, of course, our patron, John Rutter.

One concert each season often include madrigals and folksongs, to explore other musical styles.

In March 2002 we performed a commissioned work from Jim Beston, Pathways in Time, which gave the choir an opportunity to celebrate the changing and progressing musical world.

There are opportunities for solo and small group performances.
