SWCS and Young People

With funding from Lloyds TSB, Pathways in Time was commisioned from local composer Jim Beston specifically with young people in mind.
It was performed in March 2002 with children from four local primary schools.
In our March 2003 concert we were joined by singers from the Cantate Youth Choir
(
Director Michael Kibblewhite) to perform
John Rutter's Mass of the Children.
More music written specifically for SWCS and school children was performed at our summer concert in 2005.

We have been delighted to welcome several young singers into the main choir in recent years. We have a special student subscription rate of only £10 per term and we give priority admission to enable local students to sing with us before moving away to college.

All applicants must take a short, friendly audition. For those aged from 16 to 25 auditions prior to the Autumn Term will also be taken into account in deciding on the Janet Evans Young Singers' Award for the year. Applicants for the Spring or Summer terms may be asked to take a separate auditon for the Award.

SWCS is particularly interested in encouraging young people to enjoy and participate in live music.

Our annual Spirit of Christmas concerts are shared with pupils from local schools.

Specially discounted tickets (£1) are available to under-18s for all our concerts.
